HOW TO SECURE WIFI PASSWORD AT HOME
- In Kampala, our home WiFi connects us to everything. But is it safe? Let's fix that!.
- Change Your Router Password: Go to 192.168.1.1 (or 192.168.0.1) in your browser. Find 'Password' and create a strong one (letters, numbers, symbols).
- Update Router Firmware: Check your router's settings for 'Firmware' or 'Update'. Keep it current!
- Change WiFi Name (SSID): Make it unique, not your name.
- Use WPA2/WPA3 Encryption: In Wi-Fi settings, choose the strongest option.
- Enable Firewall: Find 'Firewall' in your router settings and turn it on.
- Strong WiFi Password: Make it long and complex. Don't share it widely.
- Guest Network: If you have guests, set up a separate network for them.
- Check Connected Devices: Regularly see who's on your WiFi in the router's settings.
- Router Location: Place it centrally, away from windows.
- VPN (Optional): Use a VPN on your devices for extra security.
